Do you live in the province of Groningen or Noord-Drenthe and are you considering having your roof insulated? You are in luck: in 2026 there are multiple subsidies available that significantly reduce the costs. In some cases you pay nothing at all. In this article I explain which schemes exist, how much you can get and how to apply.
Nij Begun: up to 100% subsidy in the earthquake zone
The most important scheme for our region is Nij Begun, the national recovery programme for Groningen and Noord-Drenthe. Measure 29 of this programme offers subsidies for home insulation and ventilation.
The amount of subsidy depends on where you live and your income:
- In the reinforcement area or with an income up to 140% of the social minimum: up to 100% reimbursement, with a maximum of €40,000
- Outside the reinforcement area: up to 50% reimbursement, with a maximum of €20,000
The subsidy is available for homeowners in all municipalities of the province of Groningen and in the Noord-Drenthe municipalities of Noordenveld, Aa en Hunze and Tynaarlo. The scheme was opened postcode by postcode from September 2025. Since 4 August 2026 all postcodes are open and you can apply up to and including 3 June 2035.

Want to know whether your address qualifies and which percentage applies to you? Go to isolatie.nijbegun.nl and enter your postcode. You submit the application to SNN (Samenwerkingsverband Noord-Nederland).
Have you already had insulation installed between 25 April 2023 and 3 June 2025? Then you can also apply for subsidy retroactively. Check snn.nl for the current conditions.
ISDE: national subsidy for everyone
In addition to Nij Begun there is the ISDE scheme (Investment Subsidy for Sustainable Energy and Energy Savings). This is a national scheme from the Dutch government, available for all homeowners in the Netherlands.
In 2026 you receive €16.25 per m² subsidy for roof insulation. You must have at least 20 m² insulated and the insulation must achieve an Rc value of 3.5 or higher.
Doubled amount for two measures
If you carry out two or more insulation measures within 24 months (for example roof + floor, or roof + wall insulation), the ISDE amount doubles to €32.50 per m². That makes a significant difference on a roof of 80 m².

Stacking subsidies: calculation example
The great thing is that Nij Begun and ISDE can be stacked. You can apply for both at the same time. Below is a calculation example for an average roof:

How do I apply?
Applying for Nij Begun
- Do the postcode check on isolatie.nijbegun.nl
- Register at the Regionaal Energie Loket or Energieklus for free guidance
- Choose a certified insulation company (we are one)
- Receive a quote and have the work carried out
- Submit the subsidy application to SNN
Applying for ISDE
- Have your roof insulated by a professional company
- Collect the supporting documents: invoice, photos, proof of payment and Rd value
- Go to rvo.nl and log in with DigiD
- Fill in the application form and submit
- Receive the subsidy in your account (processing time approximately 8 weeks)
Who handles the application?
You do. We make the quote and carry out the insulation, and afterwards you receive a detailed invoice. You submit the subsidy application for Nij Begun (SNN) or ISDE (RVO) yourself. Free help with that is available from the Regionaal Energie Loket or Energieklus.
National Heat Fund: interest-free borrowing
Don't have the co-payment available right away? Through the National Heat Fund (Nationaal Warmtefonds) you can take out an energy-saving loan for sustainability measures. The interest rate is low, and for households with a low income or limited borrowing capacity the interest rate is 0%. So you only pay back the borrowed amount, without extra costs.
What should you be aware of?
- You must be the owner and occupant of the property
- The insulation must be carried out by a certified company
- The insulation must meet a minimum Rc value of 3.5
- ISDE application must be submitted within 24 months after completion
- Photos of the work are required for ISDE
- For Nij Begun: your address must be in the Nij Begun area and you apply before 3 June 2035
